According to researchers, the problem of obesity includes mostly psychological factors. Scientists from the Netherlands came to the conclusion that children with extra pounds, more than all other children experience stress due to the high concentration of the stress hormone (cortisol) in their body. The study was published in a special scientific publication "Journal of clinical endocrinology and metabolism".
Experts conducted an experiment among 20 full children of both sexes aged 8-13 years. Children with normal weight were also invited. Scientists have determined the level of cortisol in each child, and in the end it became clear that overweight children have higher rates of stress. Now Dutch researchers believe that in the treatment of childhood obesity, first of all, it is necessary to eliminate psychological problems in children.
