Canadian scientists conducted a study in which 14 students were first involved with one of 3 types of activities:
- run memory and attention tests using a computer,
- reading the text and composing the abstract,
- rest sitting.
And then they were asked to eat what they wanted to choose.
The results of the experiment:
Although the real energy consumption of the body in cases of mental activity increased by only 3 calories, students consumed in these cases by 200-250 calories more.
Scientists Explained the results of the experiment when they took a blood test subjects found that mental activity leads to a significant decline in blood glucose levels.
The source of nutrition for brain cells is glucose, during mental work it is consumed faster. There is a feeling of hunger, with which the body is trying to replenish glucose.
The Author of the study Jean-Philippe Chaput (Jean-Philippe Chaput) believes that the results of this study can be explained "epidemic obesity", which hit developed countries.
However, other research suggests that performing mental work, especially at a computer, we spend more calories by speeding up metabolism. But we absorb food after such work is still more than necessary to make up for the energy consumption of the body.
To sedentary mental activity is not weighted excess weight, scientists give 2 Council:

- don't forget about physical activity.
